New Plays by Chicago Playwrights Winter 2009
by Lisa Rosenthal A world premiere! Spring 2010 Polarity Ensemble Theatre performs at the Josephinum Academy, 1500 N. Bell, Chicago. |
Next season Polarity dives into two great family dramas and continues to develop new work. Managing Director Ann Keen will helm our Fall production of the great Tennessee Williams classic, A Streetcar Named Desire, featuring ensemble member Laura Sturm as Blanche Dubois. This intense American drama of family, illusion, desire and betrayal is sure to be a richly intense experience in our intimate theatre. Our Winter production will be the third edition of our acclaimed Dionysos Cup Festival of New Plays. Playwrights have hailed the Dionysos Cup as the most valuable script development process of its kind. It's our way of bringing the work of local playwrights closer to full production. In the Spring, Artistic Director Richard Engling will direct the world premiere of Lisa Rosenthal's The Good Harvest, in which a woman's obsession haunts her children even after her mysterious death. We are especially excited as Lisa has had a long history of working with Polarity, and The Good Harvest was the Dionysos Cup winner in 2008. |
Our book division presents its second publication, The White Airplane and Horror Academy: Two Plays by Darren Callahan. It joins Antigone and Macbeth: Adaptations for a War-Torn Time by Richard Engling in our bookstore. The Chicago Reader named us Best Emerging Theatre Company in its 2008 Best of Chicago issue. We are looking for volunteers and new Board members to help take us to the next level. Interested? Email us. Or help us with a donation. Thanks! WE HAVE A HOME! A theatre of our own!!! Sign up for audition news and opportunities for directors, playwrights, designers, etc.
