To revisit the glory of theatre as ritual. . .
At Polarity, we plan to strip productions to their essence. We want to return to theatre that brings stories to life not just by engaging scripts, but by the imagination of the actors and the audience's desire to play an active role. We will use music, dance, ritual, and anything that keeps the human element front and center. We all connect to human struggles and desires better than anything the technical side of theatre has to offer. If you leave the theatre unmoved, we have not done our job.
Ann Keen, Managing Director Polarity Ensemble Theatre is steeped in tradition. Yes, we know we are still a young company. Yet that is the goal of every production at Polarity: to revisit the glory of theatre as ritual that inspires, challenges and entertains.
Theatre started with an argument and a script. The actors were all men, they wore masks, and they presented ideas and stories to the audience. Theatre was designed to make its audience think while being entertained. With every emotional scene, there was a lesson to be learned, and it was discovered thru rich performances and the discussions afterwards.
Entertainment is everywhere (we get a daily dose on public transportation), but intellectual challenges and moving performances are rare. We hope at Polarity you come away with both.
