The Summer of Love

The Summer of Love was our gala benefit event at the Breadline Center for the Performing Arts, Saturday, July 22nd, 2006. The night began with an array of gourmet treats and delicious cocktails in the Gallery, a silent auction, and much more.
Love for the Ages Cabaret

The Main Stage featured a delightful Love for the Ages Cabaret featuring singers, actors and musicians from Breadline Theatre Group, Polarity Ensemble Theatre and friends. Guests returned to the Gallery to drink and dance the night away.
Ah, Summer! Ah, Life!

It was a great night to enjoy yourself, and a great event to support two of Chicago’s most exciting theatre companies: Breadline Theatre Group (BTG), a well-established veteran that recently spawned its first feature length movie (featuring John Heard, star of stage and screen, and written and directed by BTG artistic director Paul Kampf) and Polarity Ensemble Theatre, a rising newcomer with two critically-acclaimed productions, an innovative new plays festival, and its first published book (written by PET artistic director Richard Engling) under its belt.

About Polarity Ensemble Theatre (PET)

Like the ancient Greeks, PET creates theatre to honor Dionysos, god of inspiration, wine and fertility as well as of destruction and madness. PET's work reflects both polarities of life: the inspiring and the destructive. PET incorporates such elements as music, dance and ritual to create classic and brand new theatre that teases the intellect and stirs the soul.

This benefit helped PET move into its second season, which included Shakespeare's Othello in Mask (11.10.06 - 12.10.06 at The Side Project Theatre in Rogers Park).

About Breadline Theatre Group (BTG)

The Breadline Center for the Performing Arts has been the home to dozens of live theater, musical and improvisational performances, as well as art exhibitions, receptions, and professional training workshops. The Center has also become a rehearsal hot spot for the countless theatre companies and improvisational troupes in Chicago. After almost ten years working in “the house that Breadline built, Breadline Theatre Group is saying goodbye to its first home and moving onward and upward!

BTG delights and instructs diverse audiences by presenting world premiere plays that challenge widely held social & political beliefs. Deeply rooted in theatrical traditions and genres, its work grows out of an ensemble based, actor-driven process that produces a vibrant visual style that speaks to today’s audiences. BTG also fosters the development of accomplished theatre artists by providing opportunities to work on all aspects of theatrical creation and production.

Join us for music on a summer night.
