Let Go and Enjoy the Ride.... Ticket Agents are Waiting

Intrigue. Murder. Illicit sex. Darren Callahan's untraditional mystery within a mystery will receive its world premiere from Polarity Ensemble Theatre (Chicago Reader Best Emerging Theatre Company of 2008) opening February 16th.

In a time of multiple challenges, what could be more fitting than a night spent in a dream of simultaneous existences in the multiple worlds of The White Airplane?

Given the trend for theater to often be mired in homogenized realism, Callahan's ambitious script offers a break and is just "plane" fun, insuring a post-play discussion during the ride home or over drinks in a nearby pub. According to Susan Padveen (director of The White Airplane), the dream-like layers of characterizations make the play a visceral and intellectual pleasure.

Delivering entertainment in the theater is Darren Callahan's forte. A winner of NPR's National Radio Drama Award whose writing has appeared in a number of music and fiction magazines, Callahan has written drama for the BBC, The Sci Fi Channel, and New York City's Radio Pacifica. His plays include "Water Pressure," "The White Airplane," and "Horror Academy."  He is also a novelist with titles including "The Audrey Green Chronicles," "Documentia," and "City of Human Remains." His screenplays include "Travel," which is in production now. Perhaps it is because Darren is also a musician that he is in tune to character relationships and the impact of the subconscious.

At the helm of the staging is Susan Padveen, who came to the project intrigued by its atmosphere of four separate worlds impacted by a single event. Drawn by the mysterious allure of the characters, Padveen takes the audience on a journey that transcends ordinary reality.

Padveen has her M.A. from the DePaul University School for New Learning. She is a freelance director and former Co-Artistic Director, National Jewish Theater; Co-Director, Green Room Project and a member Joseph Jefferson Committee A/T Team.

The White Airplane is theater of the mind that must be experienced. So get your ticket (aisle or window?) today. Agents are waiting.
